His parents having enrolled him in a local club at the age of six so he didn’t end up like many kids did on the Toxteth estate in Liverpool. Although it was never thought to be anything but a hobby, Curtis rose through the ranks to actually become British Amateur Heavyweight Champion at the age of 25, and was highly regarded, and ready to make the step into the professional leagues. However whilst still champion, Curtis was in a motorcycle accident and was told by the Doctors that he would never walk again. Driven by that, Curtis did indeed walk again and then some, and a year on from the accident, he was out of his wheelchair, six months after that, he threw away the crutches, winning the biggest fight of his life Curtis could have gone back to boxing, but he saw an advertisement for EMERGE, and actually attended one of the tryouts, and was unfortunately unsuccessful. Six months after that disappointment, a personal call from Drew Bryant changed all that… |
