I think I’ve upset the universe
Posted by: Ravyn - 09-06-2024, 03:31 AM - Forum: OOC Board - Replies (1)

I think I’ve upset the universe.

I’m having the worst few months. Back in July (might have been end of June) I went to see my GP and, long story short, he told me I might have cancer. That was not good news, and it left me very worried for a while. He referred me to a specialist at the hospital who sent me for a scan and… I don’t have cancer.

What should have been good news however has turned into hell.

The week after that, Jon came to visit. Everything was great. I went back to work the week after, only to be summoned into a meeting telling me that the company was in trouble and all the dev team would be having “risk of redundancy” meetings.

After three straight weeks of those, we all lost our jobs. My (now former) employer is now a software development company that no longer employs developers.

During those three weeks, I also caught COVID again. My mum works at the hospital and she was dealing with patients who had it, and she caught it, and I caught it off her. Lost my voice this time. That was new. Cough and feeling absolutely horrible was familiar though.

So, I’m recovered from COVID and now unemployed, and… my dog Jax is now hurt. I don’t know what he did, but he’s limping terribly. He wouldn’t let the vet fully examine him yesterday (he’s in pain, who can blame him) but the vet has given him painkillers and anti-inflammatory medicine, so hopefully after a few days that works. Otherwise it’s x-rays I can no longer afford…

Did I piss off the universe somehow? Why is all this shite happening at once?!

So, don’t know how active I’m gonna be the next few weeks. On one hand, I have a lot of free time. On the other, life kinda sucks right now and I don’t know what to do for the best.

Dexter Grant - "The Digital Detoxer"
Posted by: Digitox - 09-05-2024, 01:09 PM - Forum: Singles - Replies (1)

-----------------------------------
PERSONAL INFORMATION
-----------------------------------

Wrestler's Alias: “The Digital Detoxer” Dexter Grant
Wrestler's Real Name: Dexter Grant
Twitter Handle (if applicable): Absolutely not
Pic Base: Pac
Height: 5'10”
Weight: 210 lbs.
Birthdate: 12/17/1993
Birth Place: San Francisco, California
Current Residence: “Off the Grid”

Physical Description: Looks like Pac. Wrestles in black combat boots and black cargo pants with a ton of patches sewn onto it depicting several social media brands and notable tech company logos behind the circle-backslash symbol. Also wears a black leather vest with his symbol on the back:  the circle-backslash symbol with a wi-fi symbol behind the backslash and the words “DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT” written within the circle when he's not wrestling.

WRESTLING INFORMATION
-------------------------------------------------
Wrestling Style: Technical/Brawler/Cheater, with offense primarily targeting the head and neck
Alignment (Face/Tweener/Heel): Tweener w/ Major Heel Leanings (Dexter believes himself to be a face, and in his mind, the only reason no one treats him as such is because they're so brainwashed by social media that they're “programmed” to hate him for daring to stand against its existence. In reality, while there are some who may cheer for him and support his message, most will boo him not just because of his vitriol towards social media and the advancement of technology, but also because he has all the aggressive, underhanded hallmarks of a true heel, willing to bend the rules and go to any lengths necessary to spread his message.)
Years Pro: 1
Theme Song: “TokSik” by Starset

Finishers: Disconnect to Reconnect, Detox Drop
Finishers Descriptions (If Needed): Omoplata Crossface, Impaler DDT
Signature Moves: Unplugged, Unwanted Notification, Clickbait, Doomscrolling, Logout Lock
Signature Moves Descriptions (If Needed): Cobra Clutch Slam, Aleister Black's Black Mass, Andrade's Feint Front Kick into Discus Back Elbow, Swinging Side Slam, Bridging Cobra Clutch

Common Moves:
Clothesline
Punches
Stomps
Top Rope Elbow Drop
Running Knee Strike
Sleeper Hold
Front Missile Dropkick
Jumping Knee Drop
Guillotine Choke
Double wrist-clutch to a grounded opponent followed by multiple stomps to the opponent's chest, face, and head
Eye Poke/Rake/Gouging
Draping an opponent's throat over the second rope before kneeling across their back, choking them against the rope while he berates them for being a “slave to the social media machine”
Camel Clutch
Dragon Suplex
Tiger Suplex

Strengths:
-Very aggressive, treats every match as though it's personal which can catch opponents off guard and keep them on the back foot
-Great mic skills
-Is far more intelligent than many give him credit for. Not only does he know how to weaponize his aggression to pick somebody apart, but mind games and manipulation don't work on him because unless you're willing to go out of your way to prove you believe in his cause, he's not interested in a word you have to say.
-While he may not be much of a wrestler or fighter in any sense of the word, Wendell can still get involved on Dexter's behalf and help him when the referee's none the wiser

Weaknesses:
-Can get too aggressive for his own good and get DQ'd
-Loner. He only cares about the message he's trying to spread, so if you don't believe in that message and the dangers of technology and social media overuse, you're an enemy to him. Because of this, odds are pretty good he won't have many (if any) allies in the locker room, and he's even willing to sabotage himself if forced to team with someone just because in his mind, his cause is always more important than winning or championship gold and he can always get his message across through violence.
-Is still fairly new to the wrestling business despite the potential he's shown, so more experienced wrestlers can easily get the upper hand on him once they overcome how aggressive he is

Entrance:
“TokSik” by Starset hits as the lights in the arena immediately go out, a series of green spotlights converging onto the stage where fog has begun to consume it. The big screen show's a human eye opening, and reflecting in it is a montage of people glued to their phones and computers, either consuming or producing social media garbage as they all look sickly while doing so. “The Digital Detoxer” Dexter Grant marches out through the fog, stopping at the edge of the stage and staring out at the fans with disgust. A few cheers can be heard, but they're easily drowned out by all the boos raining down upon him. He turns his head to his right just in time to see his faithful flunky Wendell march out behind him, proudly holding up a protest sign that has the circle-backslash symbol with a wi-fi symbol behind the backslash and the words “DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT” written within the circle. Wendell eagerly looks up at Dexter, who smiles and nods in approval before he starts storming down to the ring, his disgusted look returning at the sound of all the people around him who just refuse to listen to his message. He jumps up onto the apron and aggressively steps through the ropes, marching to the center of the ring and turning his back to the hard cam as he points his thumb to the same “DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT” logo of his on the back of his vest. Wendell crawls into the ring and stands beside Dexter, proudly holding up his sign before looking legitimately confused as to why they're being booed. The lights return to normal as Dexter starts to pace around the ring.

(One constant with Dexter is that almost immediately after his music dies down, Wendell will retrieve a mic for him and he'll attempt to cut a pre-match promo where he runs down the fans and his opponent, framing it as a “soapbox speech” where he'll rant about the “cancer that is social media” and try to convince people to unplug themselves from their devices and embrace the real world again instead of doomscrolling their lives away on social media. Keyword: attempt, because it's a virtual guarantee that once Dexter gets a few words into what he has to say, he'll be cut off. If he's the first person to enter, or at least not the last in multi-person matches, he'll usually be cut off by his opponent's theme song hitting, to his irritation. If he's the last person to enter, then as soon as he starts getting intense about trying to use his opponent(s) as an example of being “cogs in the social media machine,” he'll almost always either sneak attack or be attacked in retaliation, jumpstarting the match.)

Biography:
Not much is really known these days about Dexter Grant, and he prefers it that way. What is known is that he was born in San Francisco, California on December 17, 1993 and had a seemingly normal life, even attending college and graduating with his bachelor's degree, though what he majored in seems to have been one of those details lost to time. At some point during the late 2010s, Dexter suddenly went off the grid, vanishing without a trace and trying to erase as much of his existence from the world as he could. The last any of his friends or family can recall is that he developed a deep-seated hatred for social media and the advancement of technology as a whole, claiming he saw “the truth” about how much it was poisoning humanity and would ultimately be the downfall of our species. Dexter wouldn't resurface in the public eye until America was slowly starting to open up again through the COVID-19 pandemic, where he had become a disheveled man literally making soapbox speeches on the streets preaching that the human race had to “disconnect to reconnect.” Naturally, no one paid him any mind and wrote off his preaching as the ravings of a madman, which led to Dexter seeking a bigger platform to spread his message. That platform ended up being wrestling, which was also starting to develop a major social media presence at this point, making it the perfect place for Dexter to both spread his message and unleash his pent-up aggression on the people who embody everything he despises. He was impressive enough to end up on SCW's radar, which has now opened the door for the Digital Detoxer to have his biggest platform possible to hopefully spread his message while there's still a human race left to save.

  Wendell
Posted by: Digitox - 09-05-2024, 01:07 PM - Forum: Support/Enhancement - No Replies

Name: Wendell
Pic Base: Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fogell (McLovin) from Superbad
Height: 5'7”
Weight: 145 lbs.
Birthdate: 6/20/2001
Birth Place: San Francisco, California
Current Residence: San Francisco, California

Physical Description: Looks like Christopher Mintz-Plasse in his role as Fogell (McLovin) from Superbad

Alignment: Tweener (Wendell is likable enough on his own, but he'll be hated by proxy because of his association with Dexter Grant and his undying devotion to Dexter's cause)

Behavior: Wendell may have a manager's contract, but make no mistake: Wendell is no manager. In the eyes of Dexter Grant, he's a flunky who is completely devoted to his cause of trying to make the human race unplug themselves from their devices before the “cancer of social media and the online world” claims us all. When Dexter's around, he'll speak only when told to do so, and it will usually be to spout statistics that back up Dexter's soapbox speeches about the dangers of social media and the rapid advancement of technology. Anyone who's able to talk with him without Dexter being around will find a socially awkward and nervous young man who will try to keep the conversation on getting someone to understand Dexter's cause, but he's easily intimidated and will especially crumble in the face of flirting or seductive advances from a woman (even if they're only doing it to get what they want out of him to use against or screw over Dexter). Wendell will accompany Dexter to the ring for his matches and will interfere when it looks necessary to try and get Dexter the win, relying on typical heel manager tactics like distracting the referee or the opponent, tripping up Dexter's opponents, pushing the ropes towards Dexter or pulling them away on submissions attempts (pending if Dexter's the one with the submission or trapped in it), etc. He'll also use his protest sign he always comes out to the ring with as a weapon, but given the nature of the weapon itself and the fact that he's a textbook definition of what you'd consider a “scrawny nerd” to look like in media, whoever he attacks with it will always be unfazed and it'll be more of an unintended distraction tactic than anything else.

Biography: To be completely honest, no one has a clue as to how Wendell ended up with Dexter Grant. He was your average kid, on the nerdier side and good with computers, kind and nice despite being socially awkward and frequently bullied. Perhaps that's what led him to Dexter, because during Wendell's time in college, he happened to cross paths with Dexter one day after the man had resurfaced following a period of time where he'd completely fallen off the face of the Earth, watching the passion with which Dexter delivered one of his soapbox speeches about the dangers of social media and over-reliance on technology. While nobody else seemed to buy the message, the passion behind Dexter's words still drew a pretty sizable crowd, and Wendell was inspired. Ironically, Dexter had gained his first true follower through the same methods he criticized others for that used social media platforms to brainwash the masses into a cult-like state of mind, believing in a cause they truly know nothing about and spouting off exactly what they're told to say. Dexter didn't seem to care about the hypocrisy as Wendell joining up with him gave him a tool to use, as Wendell's main role became being his “social media mole,” using the very platforms Dexter condemned and preached eliminating altogether to gather information and intel for his “savior” so Dexter had the data to back up his preaching (and so Dexter didn't make himself into a hypocrite by diving back into social media after cutting himself off from it completely). Dexter doesn't treat Wendell the best, but Wendell doesn't seem to care so long as he's part of a cause that's bigger than he is and can help see it through to fruition no matter what it takes.
