Kimberly Williams never had a personal grudge against Colleen. Not really. Sure, she had the Underground Championship, a title that Kimberly believes in her heart and soul rightfully belongs to her. But at the end of the day, despite any and all trash talk, The Woman Scorned just wanted a one on one shot at reclaiming her Underground Championship. It was nothing but professional as far as Williams was concerned. All Kim wanted was the opportunity to make history, to break the record and become a six time SCW Underground Champion. Colleen merely stood in her way and that was all there was to it. But Colleen made it personal by involving herself in Kim’s match against Syren, costing The Queen of the Death Match what would have been a hard earned victory. Now things have become personal and Kimberly has already taken things up a notch. She planted the reigning Underground Champion onto a bed of nails with the promise of even more violence to come when they face off at Retribution with the Underground Title on the line.
It has been a few days since Kimberly retaliated and brutalized Kim with the use of the bed of nails. The Woman Scorned is looking forward to her upcoming title match at Retribution, happy knowing that she doesn’t have to hold back, knowing that, since this is now personal, she can be as violent, brutal, and downright evil as humanly possible in her quest to recapture the gold. In the meantime, Kimberly is going to be taking care of other issues, tying up other loose ends in her life ahead of Retribution. One such loose end is an unbalanced woman with a criminal history; namely, Carol Johnson. Carol Johnson is the younger sister of the late Pamela Johnson, a young woman who was murdered. Kim’s uncle, Douglas Williams, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder but Kim, and Carol herself, believes that Kim’s biological father, the late Sean Williams, was the real culprit. Carol has long since held a grudge against Kimberly Williams and her family. Carol broke into the home of Kim’s identical twin sister, Marie Jones, and ransacked the place. Later Carol would burn Marie’s home down to the ground. Lastly Carol would stalk Kimberly while The Woman Scorned was out with her nephew Sean Jones. Carol would finally be arrested and convicted of breaking and entering, arson, assault, and sent to prison. Kimberly thought it was over with as far as Carol Johnson was concerned.
That changed when Kimberly decided to buy up properties and rent them at a cheap price to people in need of a place to stay. It was her way of trying to do some good in honor of her grandfather, the late Bart Jones. The Woman Scorned was ready to meet her first renter and, much to her surprise, the first renter was Carol Johnson. Kim learned that Carol got paroled and released on good behavior. Unfortunately, as it is with most ex-convicts, it is difficult to find anyone willing to take a chance on them due to their reputation. She needed a place to stay that had relatively cheap rent and she instantly saw Kimberly’s offer and jumped at it. But why? Why does Carol want to rent from a woman she hates? That answer is hard to discern. As far as Kim knows, Carol simply just wants to mess with her. Carol wants to play games with her. That may be the case. Carol has already made it abundantly clear that does not believe for one second that Kimberly has changed or that she is, in any way, different from her murderous uncle and father. One’s past is difficult to escape from, Kim knows this. She knows that the Williams family has a reputation and Kim herself as a reputation, having spent time in a mental hospital for her own deranged and unhinged crimes. But Kim is determined to prove that she is not that same monster her uncle and father turned out to be. She is determined to prove that she is no longer the monster that spent time locked up in the loony bin. People can change and Kim is determined to prove that even someone like her can change.
Right now Kimberly is doing something that most would consider a very unwise move and that is to make an unexpected visit to see Carol Johnson. When you are the landlord and the potential renter already hates you, most would not agree to rent out the home to begin with, and even if they did, they would avoid their renter as much as possible to avoid any negative confrontation. Yet Kim has never been known for doing the wisest of things or playing the most orthodox of games. Kimberly is driven by chaos, not just in her wrestling game but in her lifestyle as well. This is what brings her to the front door of the modest home in Boston, Massachusetts. The Woman Scorned may own this home but this is where Carol lives and she is about to give Ms. Johnson an unexpected, and likely unpleasant, surprise. Williams is dressed for the occasion in a black leather jacket that is slightly fitted, giving her a sleek and edgy appearance. Underneath the jacket, she wears a red and black plaid button-up shirt, which adds a relaxed and slightly rugged touch. She is also wearing dark-colored jeans. Her long, wavy red hair cascades over her shoulders. A confident smirk crosses her face as she casually knocks on the door. The Woman Scorned patiently waits. The wait is not a long one. The front door swings open and Carol is standing there, staring into Kim’s bright, smiling face. Carol, who wears a simple pair of loose fitting torn denim blue jeans, flip flops, and a fade white t-shirt, stares with wide eyed shock at seeing Williams there. That surprise turns into an angry glare very quickly.
“Go away.”
“Nice seeing you too!”
Carol slams the door shut in Kim’s face, which only prompts The Woman Scorned to laugh out loud and immediately knock again. Carol shortly opens the door again and, if possible, looks even angrier than before.
“I said go away!”
“You are not a very good host. You know that?” She smirks. “Didn’t you learn proper etiquette?”
“You think I’m crazy?” Carol sneers. “If I let you in, who knows what you might do to me?”
“Oh right, like I would really come all the way down here to hurt you, to brutalize you, right after I agreed to let you stay here at this home…” she winks playfully “...which is MY home, by the way. Don’t forget you are the renter and I am the great and all powerful LORD OF THE LAND!” She sighs. “I like the sound of that! Lord of the Land! That sounds better than landlord, don’t ya think?”
Go away.” Carol repeats and again tries to shut the door but this time Kim puts her foot out to stop the door from shutting completely. Carol groans and rolls her eyes. “Why won’t you just leave?”
“Well like I said, I am the landlord…or would that be landlady since I have lady parts?” She shrugs her shoulders. “Anyway, point is I own this place and I can legally be here. Not like you have a legal leg to stand on in terms of kicking me out.”
“But you are still invading my privacy!” She exclaims. “Didn’t you learn a damn thing about privacy growing up?”
“I learned that people tend to get irked when I show up uninvited. That’s why I like to do things like this.” She points and laughs. “Just to get that kind of reaction right there!”
“This is my home!” Carol exclaims angrily. “I’m paying you rent! The least I ask is some privacy from you!”
“And once again I am reminding you that I CAN be here.”
There is a tense staredown…well, tense from Carol’s end as she glares angrily at Kimberly. The Woman Scorned just keeps grinning like a clown, which only serves to irritate Carol Johnson even more. But Carol eventually realizes that Kim isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. She reluctantly steps aside and lets Kimberly enter the home. Williams crosses the threshold and Carol shuts the door behind her.
“Nice place you got here, Carol! Do you rent or own?” Kim asks playfully.
“Shut up and follow me.”
Kim grins as she follows Caroll into a living room area.
This isn’t the first time Kim has been here but it is the first time since Carol has had the chance to redecorate it for own tastes. She finds the walls are painted in a soft, neutral tone, complementing the light hardwood floors that stretch across the room. A comfortable gray fabric sofa sits against one wall. In front of it, a sleek wooden coffee table holds a small decorative tray with a candle, a stack of books, and a potted plant. A plush area rug in a subtle geometric pattern anchors the seating arrangement. Large windows let in plenty of natural light, dressed with sheer white curtains that allow for privacy without blocking the sun’s gentle glow. On the opposite wall, a simple media console made of warm-toned wood holds a flat-screen TV. A single floating shelf above the console displays a small collection of artwork and greenery. In one corner, a cozy reading nook is set up with a comfortable accent chair, a standing lamp, and a small side table. A few houseplants, carefully placed around the room, add a sense of life and freshness.
“I like what you’ve done with the place!” Kim walks over and jumps onto the gray sofa, sprawling out, taking up the entire area. “Very comfy and cozy!” Carol doesn’t immediately reply. She just rolls her eyes as she strolls over to the corner and sits down in the chair.
“What do you want?”
“My you are up front and abrasive today, aren’t you?” Kim asks playfully. “Didn’t I already mention something about being a good host and etiquette and all that jazz?”
“You know damn well what I mean.” Carol snaps back angrily. “What’s your agenda?”
“Oh, that…” Kim swings her legs over the side of the sofa and sits up “...you seem to know me so well, Carol. You automatically knew I had an agenda. Then again, you have your own agenda. It’s like we’re two peas in a pod!”
“We are not the same!” Carole exclaims. “I am nothing like you!”
“Keep telling yourself if it helps you sleep at night.” She winks. “But y’know, Carol, speaking of agendas, the only agenda I have is that I want to help people…” she motions to Carol “...people just like you.”
“Bullshit.”
“It’s true.” She nods her head. “See, I am willing to admit that once upon a time I was a monster. Hell, I’m even willing to admit that monster might still lurk somewhere underneath the surface. I am also willing to stare into the past, at the horrific reputation my uncle and my father created, and I am willing to own it. I am willing to stand up and admit that yes, I came from a murderer and monster and that I once was a monster myself. But I also know that I had a grandfather who was a good man who did good things who sacrificed so much just to see justice done. In my own way I want to honor my grandfather, that good man, and in turn maybe, just maybe, repair some of that damage my father did to the Williams family reputation. That’s why I am buying up properties and renting them cheap to people just like you, Carol, people who need a helping hand.”
“I don’t believe you.” Carol shakes her head. “Not for one minute. Your uncle is a murderer, your father was a murderer, and you are no different.”
“I’m not here to convince you.” Kim smirks. “But what does have me confused is YOU…” she points a finger at Carol “...you obviously still hate my guts, you still hold a grudge against me for what my father did, even though I had nothing to do with it.”
“He murdered my sister!”
“Perfectly understandable reason to still be pissed.” Kim states. “But if you really are still pissed off at me, if you still don’t trust me, why rent from me?” She asks curiously. “I mean, I can’t be the only person who had this brilliant idea of renting homes for dirt cheap.”
“Look…” Carol begins quietly “...you of all people should know what it is like, how difficult it is when you get out after being locked up.” She pauses for a moment. “Actually, come to think of it, you probably don’t know what it’s like do you? I have paid close attention to you and your career…”
“Don’t I know it.” Kim snickers. “All stalkerish and scary.”
“Shut it.” Carol snaps. “I know how insane you have been in Supreme Championship Wrestling. Is it true that you brought a god damn bed of nails to the ring and tried to put some poor girl on it?”
“Yeah…oh but don’t worry, she’s fine. Her obscenely large butt cheeks saved her from most of the damage.”
“See?! That! Stuff like that! You do things that would get most people barred from life from any and all kinds of sports! But you? You manage to survive! You keep your job! Hell, they even give you title shots for doing crazy shit like that!”
“Well anytime I do something crazy, I tend to generate ratings and hence money!” Kim says playfully.
“I think the real answer is that your mother is backstage advocating on your behalf, keeping your job safe.” Carol nods her head. “Yes, I know how much sway your other family, the Jones family, has in SCW.”
“You can think the worst of me if you want, I don’t really care.” Kim shakes her head. “But I am legitimately doing this to help people. I really do want to help people like you, Carol, whether you believe me or not.” She nods her head. “And yes, I get it. I understand that having a criminal record isn’t something you can hide from. It is difficult to get someone to hire you with a criminal record and thus it becomes difficult if not impossible to pay sky high rent without a decent paying job. I get the difficulties that come with being an ex-con. That’s why I’m doing this. To help you.”
“You talk as if you know me but you don’t.” Carol stands up. “You have no idea!”
“Carol…”
“Leave!” She shouts angrily. “Leave now!”
Kimberly wants to keep talking to Carol. She was once like Carol, full of rage and hate directed at a society that she believed wronged her. But Kim can tell that Carol is not ready to listen to reason, at least not yet. She rises up off of the sofa and walks away. Retreat, today, is the better option. There will be another time and another day to confront Carol. Kim is not ready to give up just yet.

It has been twenty-four hours since Kimberly Williams had her confrontation with Carol Johnson. It went about as well as Kim expected it would; Carol got angry, kept getting angrier, and eventually threw her out. Yes, Kimberly could have pressed the issues, she could have continued to pressure Carol on what was really bothering her, but even Kimberly has her limits. Even Kimberly knows when she needs to lay off and give someone like Carol some breathing room. The fact is, whether Carol is willing to admit it or not, she and Kimberly really are a lot alike. Both had troubled lives that led to a life of crime. Kimberly’s crimes included stalking, assault, and kidnapping which put her in a mental asylum. Carol, on the other hand, was convicted of stalking, arson, and assault which landed her in prison. Both women got a lucky second chance to get out early, a chance to change their lives. Williams was lucky to have people on her side to help her find her way out of the darkness of her past; people like Larry Dempsey and her identical twin sister Marie Jones. Unfortunately it seems that Carol has no one. Her sister is dead, so is her mother. Carol has no real friends or any other family that Kimberly is aware of. And with that rage and bitterness still there boiling up within her, Kim is worried that Carol will one day snap. She fears that Carol will get herself into trouble and go back to prison, this time for much longer.
Why does Kimberly care? That is a good question that even Kim doesn’t have the answer to. She understands why Carol is angry with her; Kim’s father (or uncle) murdered her sister. With her uncle in prison and her father dead, the only one left to get revenge against is Kimberly herself. That kind of logic is what once drove Kimberly. She feels that sense of empathy and connection to Carol and maybe that’s why she feels as if she needs to help her? She sees a lot of herself in Carol Johnson. Yet Carol still is driven by hate and what might happen to Kimberly if she presses her luck with a hate-filled, unhinged woman like Carol? Most would leave Carol alone, let her get into trouble, and then let the authorities deal with her. But Kimberly cannot bring herself to just leave it alone. She feels that she must do something.
This weighs on the mind of The Queen of the Death Match as she sits out on her patio alongside her identical twin sister, “The Phoenix” Marie Jones. Nestled behind the house, it features a smooth, gray stone paver floor and a sleek wooden privacy fence, stained a rich walnut brown, that encloses the space, providing both seclusion and warmth against the backdrop of the city. String lights drape across the space, casting a soft glow, while a few potted plants including ferns, succulents, and a small Japanese maple that add a touch of greenery without overwhelming the area.
“You really have a nice place here, Kim.” Marie says with an obvious note of awe. She is really impressed with this new place her sister is living after she was already given the grand tour earlier. “I kinda pictured you one day staying at a home slightly more upscale than your old one…”
“In fairness a cardboard box was more upscale than my old home.” Kim says with a knowing grin.
“This is true.” Marie nods her head. “But I never pictured you with a patio!”
“Eh, it was Tommy’s idea. He likes being outdoors and thought this would be good to host friends and family and all that crap.”
“Speaking of Tommy, where is he?”
“He’s working out.” Kim smirks.”He wants to stay in shape even though I can’t convince him to get back in the ring.”
“The wrestling world certainly misses him.”
“I know but I can’t get him to budge his fat bearded butt back into any wrestling ring!”
“Keep trying.” Marie says. “But uh, how are you enjoying the new living conditions?”
“It’ll take some getting used to.” Kim shrugs her shoulders. “It kinda makes me feel dirty a little right now, almost as if I’m selling out who I really am.”
“That’s crazy talk, I hope you realize that.”
“Tell that to Caligula.” Kim remarks. “He enjoyed watching the cockroaches and flea infested rats scampering all over the house!”
“I’m sure he did.” Marie chuckles, rolling her eyes.
“But you know what I love most about this place?” Kim says, her face lighting up. “The basement! It is such a huge basement! I have plenty of space for all of my devices of torture and torment! A great space to prepare myself for all of the beautiful violence of the SCW Underground Division!”
“I’m sure you’re planning on making good use of that now that you finally got your one on one shot against Colleen.” Marie says. “You better not mess this up, Kim. You never know how often opportunities like this will come.”
“I know, I know.” Kim says dismissively. “Trust me, I got this one. Colleen made a big mistake by making this one personal. She made a huge mistake by screwing with me. Retribution is going to be oh so much fun…for me at least, not so much for her…when we go to war, when we bleed, and when I reclaim my Underground Title for a record setting sixth time!”
“Well I wish you luck on that, sis.” Marie says. “I know how bad you want that record all to yourself as opposed to sharing it. But what about your side gig?”
“Side gig?”
“Don’t play innocent.” Marie snickers. “You know what I’m talking about. I know all about you dipping your toes into real estate.”
“Oh that!” Kim’s eyes light up. “My real estate agent has helped me buy up several properties, not too expensive but also not low scale slums, either. And her name is Kimberly too! Isn’t that cool?!”
“Yeah…I’m sure you loved that.” Marie laughs. “You know, Kim, I had my doubts at first but I really think what you’re doing here is a good thing. You are going to get to help a lot of people who are down on their luck. I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks! But you might want to reserve your pride until after you hear about my first renter…”
“Oh?” Marie arches her brow. “You already have someone renting?”
“Yup and you know her.”
“Who is it?” Marie asks curiously.
“Carol.”
“Carol…” Marie furrows her brow as she thinks for a few moments, tries to think about anyone named Carol that she knows, and then her eyes light up with a hint of fear “...wait, you don’t mean Carol Johnson do you?”
“The one and only.”
“Are you insane?!” Marie is beginning to freak out. She shakes her head. “You cannot let her stay in one of your places.”
“You’re overreacting, as usual.” Kim scoffs. “It’ll be fine.”
“Like hell it will!” Marie exclaims. “Need I remind you that she broke into my house and ransacked it before eventually burning it to the ground? Need I remind you that she stalked you when you had MY SON with you? Need I remind you that she assaulted you when my son was present?”
“Yeah, yeah, I know all about that.” Kim says dismissively. “But need I remind you that I once kidnapped you and held you hostage for a month while I stole your identity and tried to ruin your reputation?” Kim smirks. “I’m not exactly a saint, Marie. Yet here we are, loving sisters with a bond stronger than ever.”
“That’s different.”
“How?” Kim asks. “How is it different? You gave me a chance. No one else in our family gave me a chance, not even our mother. You had to convince the family that I had changed. Now all is right in the land of Jones.”
“So wait…” Marie tilts her head to the side, studying Kim “...are you suggesting that Carol wants to change? That she wants to turn her life around?”
“I think so, yes.” Kim nods her head. “She just needs someone to give her a chance and to help her.”
“Does she even want your help?” Marie asks with a healthy dose of skepticism in her voice. “Last I heard she hated us for something OUR FATHER did.”
“Yeah, unfortunately that part hasn’t changed much.” Kim sighs.
“So she still hates your guts? And yet you still insist on doing this, trying to help her?”
“Yep.” Kim nods her head, grinning from ear to ear.
“I think you’re crazy.”
“Nothing new then.” Kim snickers knowingly. “I am and always have been Crazy Kim.”
“Yes, and that’s what most people love about you, myself included.” Marie says. “But this might be too dangerous even for you. Carol is unhinged. Be careful.”
Kim nods her head. The words of warning from her twin sister ring true. Carol Johnson is a dangerous person. Her attacks on Marie’s property, the arson, it was intended to harm Marie, not simply to send a message. Carol had intended to harm Kim and maybe even Kim’s nephew Sean. Carol claims she wants to turn her life around and Kim would like to be a part of that. It would be ironic that the daughter of the man who allegedly murdered her sister is the one who ends up getting her back on the right path. But she has to be willing to accept the help. Is she willing?
