OOC: And number two for Amelia
----------------------------------
The very first thing that greets our eyes is a beautiful shot of the Las Vegas skyline at night, the entire Strip brilliantly illuminated by a rainbow of lights and a vibrant sense of life that make Vegas a strong contender to New York City for the title of “the city that never sleeps.” A view like could only be possible from one location, and that's The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, arguably one of the fanciest hotels in the entire city. Despite the reputation that this city tends to get, this particular hotel is mindful of the comfort of its guests, hence why it goes out of its way to make sure nobody is clad in attire that could either paint them in a negative light or ruin that comfort for everyone around them who didn't consent to seeing them in such a state of undress.
Perhaps the combination of class and consent is exactly why Amelia Nevado has chosen to stay here.
We see her step out onto the balcony to take in the breathtaking view, dressed in upscale business casual attire that feels more than fitting for The Cosmopolitan, but more importantly, is something she feels comfortable in... two things she knows she won't be able to say come Taking Hold of the Flame. We can see the SCW World Title proudly draped over her shoulder as she goes to lean on the railing to her balcony, drinking in the view of a city that is proud to be what it is, regardless of what people think about that reputation. Despite this, she doesn't seem to be enjoying the view... if anything, it looks like she has a lot on her mind, and while that might be expected given what awaits her come Sunday night, it's still hard to see her trying to come to terms with everything going on around her. Eventually, she lets a sigh escape her lips as she glances over at us out of the corner of her eye.
“Being a champion is hard... that goes without saying. When you hold championship gold, you become a target for everybody else wanting to prove themselves. You stand at the top of the mountain and everyone else will do whatever it takes to send you all the way back down to the bottom so they can have their turn. I'm no stranger to this concept... say what you will about the length of my Television and Underground Title reigns, but I have proudly stood atop the tag team division for a collective total of over a year, fighting my heart out to prove that I was good enough to not only belong there, but inspire others to fight their way up to me. For the past few years, SCW's tag team division as everyone knew it was arguably the most competitive it had been in a very long time... thanks to the efforts of The Light In The Darkness to show the world why tag team wrestling is just as incredible as accomplishing anything solo.
I expected no less when I finally became World Champion. This is the highest peak in all of SCW, so I knew I was going to have to endure Hell itself if necessary in order to stay on this throne. I expected names who firmly believe they deserve this more than I do based on our history to step up and want to try and prove their superiority one more time, and I would happily welcome that challenge to continue proving myself as the best in this company today. I expected to be going one-on-one with Gavin Taylor, honoring his own rematch, and proving that while I may not have beaten him directly back at Hubris, I have what it takes to remain at the top over him as the World Champion SCW deserves. I was even fully prepared for whatever surprises the Taking Hold of the Flame battle royal might introduce this year, ready to follow up whatever challenge I needed to overcome here in Las Vegas with a fight the likes of which I've only dreamed of before in the main event of Rise to Greatness... the ultimate proof that I've finally earned the right to be considered one of SCW's absolute best.
What I could never have expected... was to see all my efforts treated as nothing more than a punchline by a pair of women proudly calling themselves clowns who want nothing more than to play games and act like they achieved anything on minimal effort.”
Amelia's discomfort is very apparent now as she turns around and leans back on the railing of the balcony, the frustration we thought would have finally faded once she reached the top seeping in and making itself known once more. She takes a deep breath before hugging the World Title across her chest, trying to ground herself.
“I've never hidden how hard it was for me to get to this point, regardless of whether or not you agree with some of the decisions I've made as of late. I was never shy about sharing the heavy expectations I had weighing on me as the prodigy of the Blythe family, the pain and abuse I had to endure until my parents believed I was finally 'good enough' to carry that burden. Even then, they continued to punish me, gaslight me, make me believe that my very best just wasn't good enough because I shouldn't have just been the very best... I should have been nothing less than the one and only wrestling god worthy of that title.
I'm going to be honest... there were points where I began to hate wrestling, where I wanted to just quit altogether, not because I couldn't succeed, but because it was at the very heart of all of my problems. But now? As I stand here before you all, at the very top of the SCW mountain, I can honestly say that I'm glad I never gave up back then, that I found my passion for this business and everything I endured growing up was worth it. I found a purpose in wrestling, I made a name that was all my own, and even when I hit low points like earlier this year when nothing was going my way and I felt like my frustrations were eating me alive... I never stopped fighting. I kept trying to push myself, because I never wanted to go back to that point in my life where none of this mattered and everything I sought to earn was never supposed to belong to me, but someone else.
But I guess all of my struggles, physical and mental, that I've had to endure over the years are just one big joke to the two of you, huh Glimmer Sisters?
From the moment you both walked into this company, I knew I wasn't going to like you. You acted like all of this was easy, you thought you could simply call yourselves the best and it would happen, you've let your egos become so inflated that you believe yourselves to be unbeatable. I was there, once upon a time... I thought the same, because that was the mindset I was supposed to have. I had to be unbeatable, I had to be the best, but unlike the two of you, I still worked my butt off between those ropes to earn everything I have to my name the hard way. One other thing I learned the hard way is that nothing lasts forever, and just as I'll admit to letting my own overconfidence cause my entire wrestling world to come crumbling down around me a long time ago... you two are long overdue to understand exactly what that feels like.
Up to this point, the two of you have done nothing but play games and act like you're better than everyone else. Say what you will about the likes of Glory Braddock, but as much as she's infuriated me over her gloating that I could never defeat her one-on-one, she at least earned those wins the hard way. The two times I crossed paths with Gina? The first time in Trios required the two of you to confuse the referee and take advantage of a few people who shouldn't have been out at ringside to steal a win by disqualification. The second time in Fatal Fortunes, you took advantage of a setup I wasn't comfortable with, and even then, you couldn't beat me cleanly. Take away the wardrobe malfunction, which wouldn't have surprised me if it was blatant on your part, and who knows what would've happened. You can act like that makes you better than me all you want, but no one's buying it. That's why, even despite those 'wins,' everyone has still proudly called The Light In The Darkness the best tag team in SCW today over the likes of you and your sister.
That's why you pulled this little stunt of yours... that's why you cashed in your Trios contract on this Lingerie Showdown, forcing not only me, but La Pequeña Luz as well, to stand in front of a live Las Vegas crowd and a broadcast audience watching from around the world in nothing but our underwear. You want, so badly, for people to say the Glimmer Sisters are superior to The Light In The Darkness, but deep down, the two of you know that you could never beat us... not cleanly, anyway. So you had to resort to trying to embarrass and humiliate us, making us have to parade ourselves around like prized cattle to try and convince those who refuse to cheer for you that we're no different than you after all. You went and created a whole match built solely around stacking the deck so heavily in your favor that you can't possibly lose, all just so you could point to the night of June 14th as if it were proof that the Glimmers are, in fact, better than the team that redefined what tag team wrestling is all about and put it back on the map here in SCW.”
Amelia suddenly finds her gaze lowering to the World Title clutched tightly against her body, the look in her eyes growing more conflicted again. The uncertainty in her head seems to grow worse as her gaze travels from the title belt towards her left wrist, which we only now realize is taped up as if she were ready to compete when it makes no sense... or at least, the reason why only makes sense to her.
“You even made sure to hedge your bets with one specific little line in the terms of this Lingerie Showdown... while the winning team gains the World Tag Team Titles, whoever scores the winning fall will become World Champion. In your hopes to truly ensure that you can win this match you've devised as easily as possible, you've attempted to forge a sense of distrust between myself and my partner, because while I could win this match, I could also still lose this title to the woman who's supposed to have my back in this mess.
Unfortunately, in your efforts to make a complete joke out of two sets of titles that many, myself included, have gone as far as willingly sacrificing their careers to obtain, the two of you have made a fatal mistake...
You've underestimated The Light In The Darkness.”
Amelia's gaze rises to meet us once again, but this time, the uncertainty is gone. In her eyes, we see focus and determination, the aspects that have been a cornerstone of Amelia rebuilding herself into the World Champion she is today. But we also see something else, something we haven't seen in way too long... a fondness in her gaze, a sense of admiration that feels like it's been buried over the past several months. Whatever frustration was clouding her thoughts seems to have given way to memories that inspire hope... a hope that feels like it's been sorely missing from Amelia for far too long, and a hope that has defined a tag team that has long since earned their stripes in this business.
“Do you know what makes Luz and I so special? It's not just the love and trust we've shown for one another, it's the chemistry we possess in that ring. The synergy between us... it goes far beyond simply being tag team partners, or even partners in love and life. The very first time Luz and I crossed paths in this business, we turned a multi-person match we were both part of into a spectacle where the two of us stole the show and made sure no one could interrupt us as we fought. Every match we've had against one another since, regardless of whether we were bitter rivals, best friends, or even idiots in love, we battled with the kind of intensity and chemistry that defies all logic. That synergy is why we've earned the right to be considered one of the best tag teams to ever grace the squared circle.
Are we fully on the same page right now? No, and our match with Hollywood on Breakdown proved that. But I believe in what we have together, what's always existed between us before we even properly knew each other, and while the two of you may be twins... Luz and I? We're soulmates, and our recent issues don't change the destiny that proves we were meant to be together. If things get dire, if you think you can actually back us into a corner, I promise you... we will introduce you to what's always made us special and we will make you regret ever thinking this was a good idea.
But that's where I'm sure your ultimate trump card comes in, doesn't it? Your ace in the hole... your Twin Magic, as you love to refer to it. The same tactic that stole a semi-final match in the Trios Tournament from my team, the secret weapon that has stolen countless victories for the two of you and why the Glimmer Sisters have fully bought into their own hype. You believe that if this does start to go sideways, if every advantage you put in your favor fails you once you finally realize that taking us lightly is a grave mistake, especially when we know better than to treat you as anything other than the greatest threat we've ever had to face thus far, then all you have to do is make one little switch and we'll fall for it hook, line and sinker. Even if you don't need to hide it from the referee in the likely event you win the contest half of this match, as long as you hide it from us, then victory is yours and the gloating can begin, right?
Gia, Gina, I hate to break it to you... but Luz and I have done our homework and we know how to see through your little magic trick.
I'll let you in on a little secret, because I know you both are too full of yourselves to think I'm giving you a fair warning until it's too late. I doubt you know or care, but anyone who's familiar with the Blythe name knows that I'm not the only child Aleister and Ophelia brought into this world. Before me came Edward and Emily Blythe, twin siblings who dominated the British tag team scene. Believe it or not, they're not so different from the two of you, minus the need to ditch their clothes just to get attention. While I struggled to unchain myself from the burden of the family legacy I never asked to be born into, my siblings rebelled in their own ways... they cheated, they deceived, they relied on every trick in the book to win so they didn't have to use the wrestling skill they actually possessed as a middle finger to our parents. Their greatest trick? They called it the Twin Illusion, where they took advantage of any distraction possible to trade places, using their identical appearances to confuse everybody and steal victory in broad daylight.
Sound familiar?
While I was broken and reforged by my parents into their perfect diamond, I watched as Ed and Em used the same tactic you've relied so heavily on time and time again to build a legacy that spat in the face of everything the Blythe name stood for. Unfortunately for them, I learned every possible way to tell who was who even when they put in so much effort to try and disguise it. I picked up on the subtle situations where I could only fall into that trap if I didn't take a moment to stop and think. When Luz and I had our very first match as a team, I taught her all the signs and secrets I'd picked up, and when my siblings tried to pull that stunt on us... we saw straight through it, and it became their undoing.
Just like it's going to become yours on Sunday night.”
Amelia relaxes a little bit, looking more confident and certain than she has in the past few minutes. She slides the World Title belt off her shoulder and holds it proudly before her, as if daring the Glimmers to try and take it from her if they think they can.
“You two think this is all fun and games, that you can treat this business like a joke and you'll coast to the top because just as you don't take any of this seriously, no one has even taken you seriously as a result. That stops at Taking Hold of the Flame. You may be forcing Luz and I to have to wrestle you in nothing but lingerie, you may have created a scenario where you think you can't possibly lose... but The Light In The Darkness has pulled off the impossible before, and all you've done is inspired us to do it again. Luz and I have both been forged by adversity and risen above it to become stronger, we've fought our hearts out to overcome every single challenge thrown our way, and I can promise the Glimmer Sisters this: Taking Hold of the Flame 2026 will forever be remembered as the night Gia and Gina flew too close to the sun and learned the hard way what happens when you fall from grace harder than you've ever known. Wrestling is everything to both Luz and myself, and I swear on my life that I will fight harder than I ever have before to walk out of Allegiant Stadium not only as a World Champion that SCW can be proud of, but as a four-time World Tag Team Champion alongside a woman who has supported me even in my darkest moments.
If something happens Luz scores the fall and I lose this title to her... we'll cross that bridge if we come to it.
But one thing mi amor and I can absolutely agree on is that we will use every tool in our wrestling arsenal to make sure the Glimmer Sisters realize that when you're so lost in your own hype that you're willing to bet it all and try to rig the game in your favor anyways, you can still lose everything. All it takes is one chance, one spark of hope... and finding that opening to make the impossible a reality is exactly why The Light In The Darkness has earned our reputation, no tricks necessary.”
As Amelia slowly moves the World Title belt to rest over her shoulder again, her eyes lower to her taped wrist one last time, which seems to extinguish some of her fire. This moment doesn't last long, though, as she takes a deep breath before flashing us, or perhaps one specific person out there, a tender smile, letting some of the Amelia Nevado we've come to know and love shine through once again. Maybe she isn't as far gone as people thought she was, or maybe it's just a stabilizer to help ensure she and Luz can pull this off together. Only time will tell, but one thing is sure: Amelia trusts Luz to have her back despite everything, and she will return the favor for the woman who, even now, still means everything to her.
