The damp, heavy heat of a Boston June had settled deep into the bones of the house, turning the living room into a stagnant pocket of humid air that smelled of old wood, cheap plaster, and the sharp, distinct tang of vinegar from Kimberly Williams’s recent batch of tactical hot sauce. The bare overhead lightbulb hung motionless from its frayed cord, casting a harsh, unforgiving glare over the warped floorboards and the peeling wallpaper that curled off the walls like dried birch bark. It was a room that completely defied the massive wealth of its owner, maintained in a state of deliberate, calculated squalor that made most visitors want to wipe their feet before they left. Marie Jones sat near the edge of the sunken tweed sofa, her posture rigid as she tried to minimize contact with the deeply stained fabric. She was the absolute picture of practical, feminine comfort, dressed in a soft, lavender linen button-down shirt with the sleeves neatly rolled to her elbows, paired with well-fitted khaki trousers and clean, white canvas sneakers.

Directly across the room, leaning against a heavily dented metal filing cabinet with her arms crossed, was Kimberly. The physical resemblance between the two women was undeniable, they shared the exact same sharp jawline, the same high cheekbones, and the same striking eyes, but the presentation could not have been more polarized. Kimberly looked like she had just survived a prolonged siege in a remote swamp. She was wearing a shredded, faded black t-shirt that was missing an entire sleeve, tucked haphazardly into a pair of oversized, heavily stained woodland camouflage cargo pants. Her feet were clad in her signature, unlaced combat boots, which still bore dried crusts of mud from her backyard construction project.

Resting precisely between them on the middle cushion of the sofa was Wasley the penguin. The oversized plush toy sat perfectly upright, his dense core of lead fishing weights causing the cushion beneath him to sag into a deep, permanent crater. He was still wearing the tiny, clip-on black bow tie from his trip to the real estate office, though it had spun around toward his left wing, giving the deadly, heavily weighted bird the look of a very drunk, very solid formal guest. His shiny black bead eyes stared straight ahead at the peeling wallpaper, serving as a silent, unblinking buffer between the sisters. Marie deliberately avoided looking at the penguin, well aware that picking him up without proper bracing could easily sprain an wrist. The tense silence of the room was punctuated by a sudden, violent scratching sound from the corner. Inside his sprawling plastic cage atop the filing cabinet, Caligula the hamster was throwing his entire golden-furred mass into his exercise wheel. Caligula was a creature of pure, concentrated malice, and today he was running with a frantic, rhythmic velocity that made the entire metal cabinet vibrate against the floorboards. The high-pitched, metallic squeak of the wheel served as a driving, chaotic soundtrack to the stand-off, the tiny rodent occasionally pausing to glare through the plastic bars with glinting, furious black eyes before launching himself back into his sprint.

Marie let out a slow, controlled sigh, her eyes tracking a loose strand of wallpaper as it vibrated in time with the hamster's wheel. She shifted her weight on the groaning sofa cushions, looking from the lead-filled plushie beside her over to her twin sister, who was currently tracking a fly on the ceiling with the intense, unblinking focus of a sniper.

“It’s unbelievable, Kim.” Marie shakes her head. “I thought I knew him but after all of this? I just don’t know anything anymore.”

“Oh come now! You know several things!” Kim insists. “You know that you are facing Alistaire Allocco on Breakdown. You know CEO Franky Poo has taken a liking to you. You know that Angelica is our mother. You know that you are two championships away from Supreme Championship status. You know our next major event is Rise To Greatness. You know that Caligula is a hamster. You know…”

“Kim!”

“What?”

“Slow down…” Marie sighs “...I know you’re trying to lighten the mood but this is serious. Percy just disappears, drops off the radar for what seems like forever. I’m worried sick about my boyfriend, his wealth and well being, or if he’s just dumped me. Only for you and I run across him outside of a bar, beaten half to death.”

“You can even the score with him.” Kim states confidently. “You and Alistaire can beat each other half to death! See how Percy likes seeing his beloved beaten half to death!”

“That’s not very helpful, Kimmy.”

“Hey, at least I’m a good listener!” Kim winks playfully.

“That you are.” The Phoenix sighs. “It’s just hard to trust him. He’s an ex-con, he spent time in prison. True, I knew that when I got into the relationship, but he didn’t appear to be a con artist. He didn’t appear manipulative. He seemed like he was honestly trying to turn his life around. But apparently he was drinking the night we found him.”

“Oh…” Kim grins “...so he’s blaming the bottle for that predicament?”

“Yeah.” Marie nods her head. “He says he was drunk and got mugged. But that doesn’t make sense. It seems to me like he’s hiding something, as if he’s not telling me the whole truth, and it’s driving me crazy.”

“Well tell Dr. Kimmy this,” Kim begins “are you going to dump him?”

“I don’t want to. I mean, I believe in second chances and yet, at the same time, I know he has been lying to me. I know he has been violating the terms of his parole. By all rights he should be in prison.” Marie shrugs her shoulders. “I’m not sure I can trust him.”

“To be fair, I’ve done shit a lot worse than simply drinking and partying. Hell, I kidnapped you and stole your identity and you trust me.”

“Once again, that’s what makes this decision so difficult. I want to give him a second chance because I believe in second chances. He swore to me that this was just an anomaly, one slip up, and that he would never break the rules again.”

“So what are you gonna do?” Kim asks.

“I don’t know.” Jones sighs. “What would you do?”

“Me?” Kim snickers. “You’re seriously asking me for relationship advice?”

“Yes.” Marie nods her head. “You seem to be happy all the time, I rarely see you bothered by anything. Maybe I do need to be more like you?”

“Awwww I’m so touched!” Kim exclaims. “Finally the prude is coming out of her shell! Is that what the penguin outfit was about?”

“Yes, I was trying to be more like you. I was trying to just enjoy myself AND win.” She sighs. “Unfortunately the WINNING part didn’t come. Hopefully that can change against Allocco.”

“Well if you are serious about being more like me…” Kim grins nastily “...then my advice would be to murder him.”

“No, absolutely not.” Marie shakes her head.

“Oh calm down, I was talking about Percy.” Kim smirks. “Just maim Allocco. I think the CEO likes Allocco. Murdering someone he likes would put us on his naughty list and we are trying so desperately to get on his good list, right? Right!”

“We’re not murdering or maiming anyone.” Marie shakes her head. “Especially not my boyfriend Percy.”

“Well if you won’t take my advice then perhaps you need advice from a neutral third party.”

“And who would that be?”

Marie watches as her identical twin reaches into the hamster cage and gently pulls Caligula out of it. She holds Caligula up to Marie, grinning from ear to ear.

“What’s this?”

“This is Caligula.” Kim says. “You know him, silly! He is great at relationship advice.”

“You have to be joking.”

“Do I look like I’m joking?” Kim shakes her head. “Actually, don’t answer that. Just talk to the hamster. It’s what I do every single time I need advice.”

“You’re being serious, aren’t you?”

“Deadly.” Kim smirks. “If you want to be like me, forget reality. Just…do things! Talk to the hamster!”

Marie stared at the fat, vibrating golden ball of fur cupped in her sister’s calloused palms. Caligula’s tiny pink nose twitched with frantic rage, his whiskers bristling as if he could sense the absolute absurdity of the moment. Marie rubbed her temples, looking from the hamster up to Kim’s wide, unblinking green eyes, completely exhausted by the sheer chaos that was her twin sister's daily existence.

“Fine, Caligula, what do you think? Do I give Percy another chance?”

“Are you out of your absolute, pea-sized mind, lady?” Kim barked as Caligula, her thumb subtly nudging the hamster’s belly to make his tiny paws flail. “Look at you! Sitting there in your pressed little country-club trousers, whining about some leather-jacketed greaseball who can’t even handle his liquor without getting his teeth kicked in! You’re a Jones, aren’t you? Or did they replace your spine with a wet noodle while you were out buying that lavender shirt?”

“I’m just trying to look at the situation rationally, Caligula.” Marie is stunned that she is actually playing along with this game of arguing with a hamster. “He has a past, but he was good to Sean…”

“Oh, spare me the waterworks, sweetheart!” Kim snapped back in the hamster's aggressive grunt, jerking Caligula forward as if the rodent were trying to physically intimidate Marie across the coffee table. “The guy is a parasite! He’s a beta male hiding behind a motorcycle engine, and you’re over here playing nursemaid to a guy who breaks parole for a few cheap draft beers. If a man can’t even run a scam without ending up face-down in a South Boston gutter, he doesn't belong in a high-class broad's house. You should have left him in the dirt where you found him, packed up his little biker toys, and found yourself a real man. Maybe a hamster, like me? Or better yet, just buy a bigger lock for your door and stop letting these pathetic, weeping losers drain your bank account!”

“Hey!” Marie defended, a sharp flush of heat rising to her cheeks. “He’s not a loser, he just made a mistake. And watch your mouth!”

“Watch my mouth? Look at this face, gorgeous, I don’t even have lips!” Kim sneered, tilting the hamster’s angry black eyes directly toward Marie's face. “You’re the one letting some ex-con dictate your life while you’ve got a match with Allocco coming up. You think Alistaire is going to care about your relationship status when he’s trying to break your neck on Breakdown? Get your head out of the clouds, put on your big-girl boots, and go break some ribs. Leave the bleeding-heart charity work for the church and charities, sister, because right now, you look pathetic. Now put me back in my wheel before I bite a chunk out of your fancy little finger!”

We open to see “The Phoenix” Marie Jones posing in a dimly lit, modern interior room. She is lying lengthwise across a long, dark wooden table or countertop, supporting her head with one hand while extending her other arm toward the edge of the surface. Her legs are bent upward at the knees, with her feet crossed behind her. The Phoenix looks directly toward the camera with a calm, confident expression, her makeup emphasizing her eyes with dark eyeliner and mascara. Her shoulder-length red hair is styled in loose, softly tousled waves that frame her face. Marie is dressed in an elegant black dress with a fitted silhouette. The dress is sleeveless, exposing her shoulders and upper arms, and its simple, streamlined design gives it a sophisticated look. She completes the outfit with a pair of glossy black high-heeled pumps, which are visible as her feet are lifted behind her. The surroundings feature a contemporary room dominated by dark wood tones. The long wooden table has a rich grain pattern and occupies much of the foreground. Behind Marie are tall wooden columns and muted walls, creating an open, upscale atmosphere. A light-colored wooden bar stool sits beneath the table near the right side. The subdued lighting casts soft shadows throughout the room, drawing attention to Marie as the focal point while enhancing the warm, intimate ambiance of the space.

“My, my, my, a lot has changed since I’ve been gone.” The Phoenix slowly swings around to where she is in a seated position facing the camera. She smirks confidently. “Last time I was here, we were run by CHBK. Now I admit, I was never quite sure if I could trust him, not after the whole Infamous fiasco from several years ago. But now I make my return and I see that it appears as if we’re running with the same song and dance, the same story yet again, just with a different cast of characters trying to run everything. Just like we had a power struggle back then between Katya and Sasha, now we have a power struggle between CHBK and CEO Frank; well, assuming that CHBK will be able to even come back from that beating he suffered.” Jones shakes her head.

“Let me make one thing perfectly clear before I go any further; I echo my sister’s sentiments when I say that I want no part of this silly war. I do not want to involve myself in a power struggle. So Delatosso, I can speak for Twin Magic when I say that we are not interested in fighting any wars and we will not get in your way. Just like Kimmy has her goal, her prize of trying to recapture the SCW Underground Title, I have goals of my own. I am two championships shy of becoming a Supreme Champion. I just need the Adrenaline Title and the World Title. Ultimately that’s what I am here for. I am here to complete my mission. I am here to compete against the best SCW has to offer. Hell, if the opportune time were to present itself, maybe me and Kimmy could go after the tag titles again? But I absolutely refuse to get drawn into a cookie cutter power struggle like the one I was involved with years ago. I’m done with it, over it, bored with it.”

“Now then, Taking Hold of the Flame…” she snickers “...Wasley had quite a showing, didn’t he? I hope you enjoyed my little stunt, because I sure as hell did! And really that was the point behind it. I had been running myself ragged trying to be the best damn professional wrestler in the world, trying to win as many championships and trinkets that I could, that I forgot why I got involved in the business in the first place. I didn’t get involved just because my mother was a wrestler. I could care less about a birthright or being a second generation star. I certainly never wanted anything handed to me. I got involved because I was passionate about this business. I genuinely enjoyed being a professional wrestler. I enjoyed entertaining the fans. So even though I did not win Taking Hold of the Flame, I still managed to remind myself of the pure joy of competing in the squared circle for the great fans of SCW.” She points a finger at the camera.

“Which brings me to Alistaire Allocco.” She sighs. “I know I said I didn’t want to get dragged into this power struggle currently going on in SCW but considering you have clearly aligned yourself with our CEO, I get the sneaking suspicion that you might have some backup, that you might have some people watching your back on Breakdown. I hope not. I truly hope we can just have a good wrestling match. I meant what I said earlier, me and Kimmy have no interest in fighting The New Order. We have no interest in playing hero. We are not the enemy. But at the same time I am also not an idiot. I was not born yesterday. I know how things operate in professional wrestling, and especially here in SCW.”

“No one is alone. No one is an island unto themselves. And you, Allocco, you will take any advantage you can. You just want the victory no matter how it comes.” Marie nods her head. “I know it, everyone knows it, and I will be prepared for whatever tricks or games you may have up your sleeve. Because this match is a very important match, not just for you but for me. It’s convenient, don’t you think, that both of us have made our grand returns to the SCW right around Rise To Greatness season and it just so happens that we are facing each other in our respective first singles match back? Losing that first match back would kill any momentum we had built.” She shakes her head.

“I just can’t let that happen. I meant every single word I said before Taking Hold of the Flame; this isn’t some nostalgia run, I’m not just blowing smoke out of my ass. I am here to make an impact. I am here to win championships and to once again rise to the top just like the fabled Phoenix. I am here to prove that I am among the very best the Jones Wrestling Family has ever produced.” She smirks knowingly. “Delatosso is right, I am NOT my sister. I am NOT Kimmy. In fact, I am arguably more dangerous than her because with her you know she’s off her rocker, she is eccentric and deranged, and you know to expect chaos. But when you look into my eyes you are lulled into a false sense of security. You may look into my eyes and you don’t see the danger underneath. You look into my eyes and see someone nice, warm, someone who plays by the rules.” She sneers.

“You and everyone else is about to learn that I can be a cold blooded killer inside the squared circle when necessary. And on Breakdown, considering I NEED this victory in order to maintain my momentum, considering I NEED this victory as I march towards Rise To Greatness, expect to face the cold blooded killer. Expect to go down in flames at the hands of The Phoenix.”
