Villain of the Year
”Different Definition of the Word”
Frost ‘Forever Home’

“Come on…” Selena ordered, slightly out of breath as she pushed against the hold of her opponent, sending the entire frame of said opponent into the turnbuckle. The workout ring, located on the far end of the workout space, which took up a good third of the ‘pool house’ belonging to the Frost property, shook a little from the movements – like any ring in SCW would have (The Snow Queen had spared little expense when she had had the thing built, wanting a ring as identical to her ‘work space’ as possible). Unlike when she did wrestle in a Supreme Championship Wrestling ring, however, the platinum-blonde had chosen workout shorts and a gray t-shirt over her usual wrestling pants and vest/long-sleeve-top.
This wasn’t an SCW match like the countless ones she had had in the last eleven and a half years, but it may have been as emotional…
Before her, the redhead she had sent to the turnbuckle turned around, glaring at the Snow Queen with clear frustration.
“You said this was going to help me.” Deanna Frost remarked, emerald eyes clearly displaying her irritation with the former world champion. “You’ve just been throwing me around the ring!”
“And you said you’ve been training.” Selena countered crossing her arms over her chest.
“I have!!” Deanna insisted in her own defense. “But it’s not like I can do much by myself other than take bumps! Who am I going to grab? You want to me suplex our kids? ‘Hey, Elsa! Wanna help mommy out for a second?’”
“I thought I was ‘mommy’?” Selena tilted her head.
“You’re…” Deanna huffed, taking a second. “Right. You’re ‘Mother’ or ‘Mommy’, I’m-“
“Mom or ‘Mum’ or ‘Mama’.” Selena concluded with a nod of her head.
“My point still stands!” Deanna finalized with her hands out a little past her chest. Like Selena, she wore shorts and a t-shirt, though her shorts were a dark purple and her top was a dark green. Her hair, unlike the Snow Queen’s iconic braid, was set in a simple ponytail, allowing the Blue-Eyed Devil to catch every expression the Red-Maned Lioness made. “I can only practice so much. And it’s not like you’re here all that much to help.”
“I’ve been-“
“Busy.” Deanna sighed. “I know, okay?” Deanna shook her head. “I’ve been watching the shows. I get it.” She breathed. “I just…” she shrugged her shoulders. “I could be helping. I could be there. Solving some of these problems.”
Selena watched her wife –
Ex-wife. she had to keep reminding herself – flop down to sit on the mat, her back leaning up against the turnbuckle’s pads. Selena had heard these remarks before. True, she wasn’t around this place all that often, especially with Deanna being brought back here from Kentucky and her place over at Eyrie Tower, but she still had made visits to see the children and train a little with the redhead, the woman wishing to make good on trying to get Deanna ready for some kind of return. What that return would be, however, Selena wasn’t sure yet.
“I know.” The Snow Queen sighed, maintaining her stance and posture. “But you’re not as fast as you were back then, and you’re still making rookie-level mistakes with your grapples and counters.” She had to be honest. “If you’ve been watching, then you know Enigma is back.”
She saw Deanna’s eyes widen and then quickly look away.
“Yeah, I…I saw…” Deanna nodded, suddenly more interested in rather interested in some visible speck on the mat. It was enough motivation for Selena to continue.
“And, lest we forget, you’re still in possession of the United States Championship.” She added with emphasis. “Are you aware about Majors?”
Deanna gave a nod of her head, slowly speaking. “I have no idea what is happening there…” Her head snapped back to Selena. “But that’s another reason I need to go back! Majors, Asher- LUZ! The division needs to get itself back in order with so many people holding a version of the title! I need to go back and-“
“What?” Selena countered briskly. “Lose?” she asked curtly. “At your best, you still couldn’t get past Asher Hayes. Not to mention last time you fought Luz one on one, you lost. And between you and Jordan Majors? Because I’ve fought her.” Selena added. “And right now? She’d wipe the floor with you.”
“Tell me how you really feel.” Deanna shot back briskly.
“How I really feel is that I love you, but that’s besides the point.” Selena threw back with ease and a shrug of her shoulders, only to see Deanna’s eyes widen before her expression altered from depression to frustration.
“Will you stop saying that?!” she almost roared.
“Saying what?” Selena asked.
“That you love me, okay?”
“What’s wrong with me saying it?” Selena asked with a tilt of her head.
“Because it hurts, okay?!” The redhead pushed herself up to her head. “It confuses me! It frustrates me! And did I mention it hurts me?! You…” she gestured a hand towards the toned woman. “You… you say it like it’s so natural. Like it’s the easiest thing in the world… and you’re just reminding me of what we once had. The way things once were. And they can’t…” Selena heard the woman’s voice crack a little. “They can’t be…”
“You want me to stop being who I am?” Selena asked. “To stop saying what I feel and being honest? I won’t.” She glared at the redhead. “I don’t care if it hurts your feelings, Deanna. I wasn’t the one that demanded a divorce, remember?”
“No…” Deanna shook her head. “You weren’t. You were the one that snuck into Jessica’s room and tried to overdose her on NX.”
“To protect you.” Selena countered. “To give you a chance against the Enigma. I told you that the dosage was non-lethal! It would have just put her in a coma for a while.”
“But you couldn’t tell me how long! Or what the long-term damage could be! You were still willing to risk her well-being without a second thought!”
“For you? Let me think…” Selena tilted her head upwards in fake ‘contemplation’ before jerking it back towards Deanna, sapphire eyes meeting emerald ones. “YES!”
“And that’s why I had to stop you!” Deanna shouted back. “Because that isn’t the kind of love I wanted! That isn’t the kind of love we had, Selena!”
The two stood in the ring, eyes fixed on one another until Deanna had to turn away, gazing out towards the waters of the pool. “Selena…our… what we had…” she was trying to find the right words. “You bought me this place – the property and house, I mean…” she kept looking around the area. “When I was pregnant with David, remember?”
“Yes.” Selena nodded her head, still rattled a little by Deanna’s outburst.
“I was… I was so in love with you then.” Deanna shook her head in dismay. “And carrying your child – OUR child.” Her hand slowly flew to her stomach, pressing itself there as if in memory. “And then you had this little house built for our training. And this was to be our ‘Forever Home’, where we would retire too when SCW was said and done. When you were finished. And we’d watch our children grow and eventually leave. We’d grow old… even die here. That… to me… was love.” She turned her head back towards Selena.
“But ruining other people’s lives for me? Endangering them on a ‘what-if’ scenario?” Deanna shook her head. “That isn’t love. Not one thing you did in all of that was love. Sending me to Kentucky? Keeping me confined there? Keeping me locked away in your castle?”
“Until you were better! Until it was safe!” Selena tried, but she found that she couldn’t quite get the strength in her convictions that she once had. “Or do we skip over the whole ‘arson’ thing?”
She saw Deanna’s jaw clench at that, the redhead looking away from Selena, which seemed to bring back the resolve the redhead’s earlier analysis had removed.
“Like it or not, Deanna, I did what I had to do.” Selena stated firmly. “And like it or not, you are a target simply because you are connected to me. And in your state, I could not risk someone like Blake Mason getting their hands on you. Not when you couldn’t, one-hundred-percent, defend and take care of yourself.”
“You’re missing the point!” Deanna shook her head. “You didn’t lock our kids away! You didn’t ship them to another state and isolate them! Even after what he did to Elsianna! Did you?” she eyed Selena again. “After he called her, Selena, did you take Elsianna away for months and months?”
“No… just to Germany, remember?” Selena’s eyes narrowed. “At your insistence, I might add.”
“I did that to be closer to my children.” Deanna countered. “But the point is that you just left our kids with Gerda. Why could you trust them and not me? Why couldn’t you just-“
“Because I was wrong, okay?!”
Deanna stopped immediately as soon as she heard those words, seeing Selena turn away to grasp at the ropes in the ring. “I thought there was a line nobody in SCW would cross. I thought there was no way anybody would go after children. I thought ‘there’s the line – nobody is going to cross it’. But I was wrong.”
There was a brief silence as Selena’s words settled on the air. “I won’t apologize for what I did to you. And I won’t apologize for what I did to Mason for that.”
“I wasn’t going to ask you to apologize for Mason.” She heard Deanna replied, turning her head back to the redhead, somewhat surprised. “For as I am concerned.” Deanna added, her eyes growing a little dark. “He got what he deserved when he crossed that line.”
“Deanna?” Selena asked.
With a sudden shake of her head, Deanna gazed back at Selena, the dark expression gone. “My point is, Selena, that what you believe is ‘love’ and ‘protection’… isn’t. Locking me up? Going after Kristen like that over what? An insult? A slight? That’s not love, Selena. It’s obsession. And it hurts every time you say that to me. Every time you just casually throw those words in the air, because I know…” she sighed. “I know that isn’t the love I want from you.” She suddenly reached up to wipe at the unshed tears in her eyes. “I don’t even think we can ever have that kind of ‘love’ again.”
Selena said nothing at first, the platinum-blonde merely staring back at her… ex-wife, she didn’t need to catch herself this time.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered, though her eyes did eventually find Deanna. “I’m sorry I can’t offer you what you want – maybe because I don’t know how. But…” she sighed a little. “But it’s for the best.” Her gaze fully found Deanna’s, the Snow Queen giving a shrug of her shoulders. “I am the villain after all.”
“Don’t start with that again, please.” Deanna tried.
“Who else could hurt someone with an ‘I love you’?” Selena laughed a little bitterly. “You said it yourself. It hurts you when I say that I love you. That’s a villain thing.” She pointed at Deanna in a ‘gotcha’ expression. “Well… don’t worry about it, Deanna.” She stated. “Soon, you’ll be back in the ring and doing your thing, back in top form – maybe even world champion. And I’ll be gone.”
“Gone?” Deanna asked, taking a step towards the older woman, seeing her head snap back and eyes widen a little before the Snow Queen smirked.
“Gone. Out of your hair? Out of the way? Doing my own thing? Back in my castle? Visiting only to see the children? That sort of thing.” She answered quickly. “You’ll never have to hear me say those words to you again.”
“That isn’t…” Deanna sighed, stopping herself, settling on letting the former world champion close the matter for now. The conclusion drawn, and Selena’s statement from it, wasn’t what Deanna had meant at all. “How much longer is all of this going to take?”
Without thinking, Selena shrugged her shoulders. “I’d wager another few months.”
“Months?!”
Selena’s head snapped back to the redhead, against the look of mild shock on her face before she gave it some thought. “I…Idealistically, yes.” She spoke slowly, realizing what her wife had really been referring to. “Conditioning and training isn’t an instantaneous thing, Deanna. You want to be ready for Enigma, Scott, Asher, Luz? Whoever else? Time is needed.”
“But months?”
“You want to do it faster?” Selena shrugged. “Do the work. Make the progress. Take the risks you say I shouldn’t take. But those risks carry consequences that are yours to deal with. Don’t blame me if you have to tack on another few months for being stupid.”
Deanna opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it, earning a smug smirk from Selena.
“Now…” she asked before cracking her neck with a few short jerks and stretching her arms out with a few swings before standing back in the middle of the ring. “Are you done for the day or should we continue?”
